The proctoring of exams is a service offered by the Easton Area Public Library (EAPL) at the Main Library to anyone taking an online and/or distance learning course. The Library offers proctoring services based on availability of Reference personnel, facilities, and technology during its operating hours.

A Library card is not required for this service and no fee is charged. However, a valid photo I.D. of the test taker is required at the time of the exam.

The Reference staff member scheduled to proctor the exam will receive, sign, and return all exam materials, instructions, and passwords according to the educational institution. Reference staff cannot proctor an exam brought by the test taker.

Proctors will enforce time limits or other rules set forth in the provided exam materials by the educational institution but will not sit with the student for the length of the exam. Any devices not approved by the educational institution (i.e. cell phones, tablets, smart watches, etc.) will be held at the Reference Desk during the exam. Any perceived violation of the posted rules for the exam will be reported to the educational institution.
The exam must be completed 30 minutes before the Library closes.

Exams not taken by the date on which they were to be completed are shredded.

The Library:
  • will not add or change software programs, or hardware to the public computers or Library space, and the proctor will not enter any personal information on the exam forms.
  • is not responsible for any delayed tests, nor for any completed tests once they leave the Library’s possession and have been returned to the educational institution.
  • will not be responsible for tests that are interrupted by Library emergencies, power failures, or computer hardware or software failures.
  • reserves the right to substitute a proctor in the event of the original proctor’s absence.
  • will retain completed exams as required by the educational institution in a secure location until such time that they will be shredded.
Test-Taker Responsibilities:
  • It is recommended that test takers inquire about testing requirements prior to reserving a testing appointment.
  • Call or email the Library to schedule an appointment. A minimum of 1 week (5 business days) notice is required to ensure the Library has appropriate staffing.
  • Provide any necessary information to the educational institution indicating that the Library will be serving as a proctor.
  • Ensure that the exam and other required materials are sent to the proctor from the educational institution before arriving to take the test.
  • Arrive promptly for the test at the time of the scheduled exam. Be prepared for the exam to take the required time allotted by the educational institution.Bring a valid photo I.D. that matches the name on the testing materials and present it to Reference staff.
  • Come prepared with supplies needed to take the test (i.e. scratch paper, pen, pencil, calculator). This may include approved accommodations by the educational institution.
