Who Are we?
The Friends are a group of library users who appreciate libraries
and what they bring to communities for adults, teens and children.
We contribute our time and money to support the Library and its
programs.
How Do We Help?
Traditionally the Friends:
-
Raise funds to provide extra items not in the library budget, as
well as for special events
-
Collect, sort and sell the books and media at the Library’s
semi-annual Book Sales
-
Plan events for the library – cultural, educational, crafts, and
entertainment
-
Enrich the Children’s Summer Reading Program with shows and
materials
-
Provide and serve refreshments at library events
Major past contributions were funding the building of the Marx Local
History Room and the restoration of the painting of the Paxinosa
Inn.
In
2009, we:
-
Staffed two successful book sales
-
Purchased puppet theaters for the Palmer and the
Southside branches
-
Bought a rug for the Palmer Children’s area
-
Funded the three puppeteer performances that will kick off the
2010 Children’s Summer Reading Program, as well as other
materials.
-
Re-supplied the plastic library card protectors
-
Purchased plastic shelving for book sales
-
Paid for the conservation of the oil portrait of Easton resident
and signer of the Declaration of Independence, George Taylor.
What More Would
We Like To Do?
-
We’re looking to add projects, such as:
-
Broadening outreach to patrons through the internet – perhaps
with a blog
-
Bringing successful industry marketing and computer-based
techniques to increase the effectiveness of library
communications
-
Increasing book donations for sales
-
Building a closer working relationship with the Easton community
-
Starting a Children’s Friends program
-
Providing a steady citizen advocacy for the library with local
and state officials
But
we'll need your Help!
