Computer Policy Use:

see a librarian. Members of the library
community who use networks or facilities not
owned by the library will adhere to the policies
and procedures established by the administrators
of these networks and facilities. Use of library
computer resources must follow the guidelines of
all the networks traversed. Computer resources
MAY NOT be used to access explicit sexual
content, as defined in 19 Pa. C.S. 5903. Illegal
activities, such as gambling, fraud and
copyright violations will be subject to
prosecution by local, state and federal

The Internet is a global network with links that often
change rapidly, with no state/county control of its
users or content. The Internet and its resources may
contain material which is controversial, incomplete, or
inaccurate. The Easton Area Public Library cannot censor
access to nor protect patrons from offensive content.
Parents of minors must assume responsibility for their
children’s use of the Internet through the Easton Area
Public Library’s connection.
Computers in the Easton Area Public Library are
maintained daily to insure reliable operation. However,
connections may fail or computers may "freeze." Such
occurrences are unfortunate, but the library is not
responsible for any losses due to computer operation,
viruses or other equipment failure. Also note that
Internet sites may be unavailable at times due to
While every attempt is made to keep all information
passing to and from our systems private, you must assume
that any information that you transmit or receive may
not be private. The Easton Area Public Library does not
monitor normal usage of our systems. However, the Easton
Area Public Library will fully cooperate with any
authority in investigation of illegal activity and may
turn over logs and records upon receipt of proper orders
or subpoenas. The Electronic Communications Act of 1986,
the Telecommunications Act of 1998 and the U.S.A.

The library assumes no
responsibility for loss due to computer viruses. Please
protect your home computer from viruses and other

Training: Training is not offered by the Reference
staff; however, the library does offer 1 on 1 tutoring
for basic computer skills. Please see the Reference
staff to schedule tutoring.
In order to comply with the CIPA Act, in
addition to the Easton Area Public Library
Policy of Acceptable Computer Resources, parents
and their children must agree to the following:
To meet the informational and educational needs
of our young patrons, Easton Area Public Library
offers computer use for word processing,
research, educational games and activities, and
e-mail. The computers are equipped with
filtering software to guard against access to
objectionable sites. It is important, however,
for parents to understand that no blocking
software is foolproof.

Computers in the Youth Services Department are
available to anyone who hold a Youth Services,
Easton Area Public Library card with fines below
$10. Preschoolers may use a parent’s card if the
parent remains with the child during the entire
session for help. In addition, staff will allow
adults who come with small children to use the
Youth Services computers while they monitor
their children’s play.
Students over the age of 13 normally receive
Young Adult status and move to the Adult Room
computers. However, students between the ages of
13 and 17 whose parents would prefer them to
retain their Youth Services status may do so and
continue to use computers in the Youth Services
room. The students’ library accounts will be
modified to allow them to use the children’s
computers only. By making this choice, they give
up the right to use the computers on the adult
side without a parent present to make the
request for them.
Although we do not offer computer instruction on
demand, staff is available for assistance.
Parents of preschool children must supervise
their children’s use of the preschool computer.
Parents must also assume responsibility for
their children’s use of the internet through the
Black and white printing is available on the
Youth Services printer at a cost of $.20 per
page. Only cash will be accepted. Color printing
is available through Adult Services at a cost of
$.50 per page.
Computer users are to adhere to the following:
A parent’s or legal guardian’s signature is
required for children to use the Easton Area
Public Library computers.
Only the person whose card was used to make
the reservation may use the computer. Any
child who does not have a reservation must
not be in the computer area.
Please do not turn off the computer when you

When headphones are used, please make sure
that you speak in a low voice if speaking is
