FEBRUARY Down to the Crossroads: Civil Rights,Black Power, and the Meredith March Against Fear
by: Adam Goudsouzian
(2014)
James Meredith organized a march from Memphis, TN, to Jackson, MS, to encourage blacks to register to vote. After Meredith was shot by a white man, this quiet walk was transformed into a “crossroads” where the non-violent movement for integration had to share the stage with the separatist message of the Black Power movement.
